FORU Therapy, a mental health organization founded by licensed therapist Melissa Valerie Rodriguez, has announced the launch of a new telehealth service designed to address the mental health needs of entertainment professionals. With a mission to create a culture of wellness within the industry, this initiative aims to provide accessible and compassionate mental health care to artists, managers, agents, publicists, and other entertainment figures.

Melissa Valerie Rodriguez: A Lifelong Commitment to Mental Health and the Entertainment Industry
Rodriguez’s path to founding FORU Therapy was shaped by her extensive education and hands-on experience in both public relations and therapy. She holds a Double Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pacific Oaks College, as well as a Master’s in Education and Counseling from the University of La Verne. She also obtained a PPS credential, positioning her to serve a diverse clientele from children to adults.
In addition to her formal education, Rodriguez’s immersion in the entertainment industry spans over two decades. As a public relations professional, she worked closely with actors, musicians, and athletes, gaining a deep understanding of the pressures and expectations that come with being in the public eye. She has collaborated with high-profile clients, including actor Emilio Rivera (“Flamin’ Hot”), TV star Julio Macias (“On My Block”), and media personality Yesi Ortiz. This unique combination of mental health expertise and entertainment industry knowledge has equipped her with the insight necessary to launch a service tailored to the mental health needs of professionals in this high-stress field.
A New Era of Telehealth Services for Entertainment Professionals
FORU Therapy’s telehealth services are designed to make mental health care accessible and nonjudgmental for people working in the entertainment industry. Rodriguez’s team of licensed therapists are equipped to handle a wide range of concerns, from anxiety and depression to trauma/PTSD, grief, and relationship challenges.
“We recognize the emotional toll that often accompanies a career in entertainment, and while many may say ‘that’s what you sign up for,’ we believe it’s essential for professionals to embrace their vulnerabilities,” says Melissa Rodriguez, Founder of FORU Therapy. “Our goal is to provide more than just therapy; we aim to create a supportive system for those who pour their hearts into their work, helping them navigate their unique challenges and reclaim their narratives, transforming struggles into strength.”
The new telehealth offering allows entertainment professionals to access therapy from the comfort of their own homes, making it easier for them to prioritize their mental health while managing the demands of their careers.
Breaking the Stigma: Why Mental Health Matters for Creatives
Rodriguez’s mission goes beyond simply offering therapy; she aims to break the stigma surrounding mental health in the entertainment industry. For years, the pressures of fame, constant public scrutiny, and relentless work schedules have contributed to mental health challenges for many in the industry. Whether dealing with rejection, isolation or the fear of failure, mental health issues often go unaddressed in favor of maintaining an image of success and perfection.
At FORU Therapy, the goal is to offer a safe space where individuals can address their emotional and mental struggles without fear of judgment. With a focus on authentic, compassionate care, FORU Therapy empowers creatives to prioritize their well-being and develop strategies to cope with the unique stresses of their careers.
“We want to create an environment where entertainment professionals feel safe to be vulnerable and seek help without fearing it will impact their careers,” Rodriguez explains. “Taking care of your mental health is not only vital to personal well-being, but it can make you stronger, more resilient, and more successful in every aspect of life.”
Looking Ahead: FORU Therapy’s Vision for the Future
The launch of the telehealth service is only the first step in FORU Therapy’s long-term mission to improve the mental health of entertainment professionals. Plans are already in motion for the opening of a physical office in 2025, providing in-person therapy services for industry professionals in Los Angeles and beyond. This new location will serve as an additional resource for those who prefer face-to-face counseling.
FORU Therapy is committed to making mental health care a priority for those who dedicate so much of themselves to the arts and entertainment industries.
